President: Norio Nakajima
Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Murata”) has been named an Environmentally Sustainable Company at the 7th ESG Finance Awards Japan, hosted by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment.

■ About the ESG Finance Awards Japan
The ESG Finance Awards Japan is a recognition program established to honor the pioneering efforts of institutional investors, financial institutions, intermediaries, companies, and other organizations that have made a significant impact through active engagement in ESG finance and environmental and social initiatives. By widely sharing these leading practices across society, the program aims to promote the adoption and expansion of ESG finance.
The recognition is divided into a financial sector and a corporate sector. In this edition, Murata was named an Environmentally Sustainable Company in the Environmentally Sustainable Company category within the corporate Sector.
■ About the Environmentally Sustainable Company Category
This category recognizes companies that integrate significant environmental-related opportunities and risks into their management strategies to enhance corporate value. These companies generate positive environmental outcomes while increasing corporate value, serving as concrete examples of environmentally sustainable companies for investors and businesses alike. Companies are evaluated and selected based on the depth of their disclosure across risk, business opportunity, and strategy; KPIs; and governance related to material environmental issues, with consideration given to industry-specific characteristics.
■ Murata’s Environmental Initiatives
In 1994, Murata pledged to always be mindful of not manufacturing products that waste resources and energy, not to use production methods that destroy the environment, and to strive toward coexistence with the environment. In 2003, the company achieved zero emissions (zero waste to landfill)* within Japan, demonstrating its proactive commitment to environmental stewardship.
In 2019, in pursuit of a sustainable global environment, Murata identified “creating a decarbonized society” and “achieving a circular economy” as material environmental and social issues (materialities). As a climate change countermeasure, the company has set a target of achieving 100% renewable energy sourcing across its business operations by fiscal 2035 and has been advancing toward this goal, having already reached it at six sites in Japan and overseas.
Under its long-term vision, Vision 2030, Murata has been pursuing a virtuous cycle of social and economic value, focusing on long-term value creation through the development of environmentally friendly products and the launch of new businesses that address environmental challenges.
Furthermore, by joining RE100, endorsing the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), and obtaining SBT certification from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), Murata is participating in and responding to international environmental initiatives, further accelerating its efforts to create a decarbonized society and achieve a circular economy.
*Zero emissions means not only eliminating waste sent directly to landfill but also reducing all waste destined for landfill to zero, including residues remaining after intermediate treatment. This excludes waste that must be landfilled for proper disposal.
■ Future Outlook
Murata will continue working with stakeholders to implement concrete measures to achieve its targets and further enhance its information disclosure. Through these efforts, the company aims to help build a decarbonized society and a sustainable world, and to enhance its corporate value.
